Outcome of Consultation: Authorising additional surge workforce - Victoria's COVID-19 vaccination program

The Society was given the opportunity to comment on the Victorian  Department of Health's (VDOH) consultation paper: "Authorising additional surge workforce to participate in Victoria's COVID-19 vaccination program".

In summary, the paper sought  to seek consultation on Technologists (relevantly for the Society) and other occupation classifications to administer COVID vaccines. Specific issues raised by the Society for its (especially) Technologist members with heavy input from the TSIG, were raised formally to the VDOH.

The issues as well as others raised by other bodies were broadly (as quoted from the VDOH communication) summarised as:

•    Medical/professional indemnity insurance
•    Utilisation of newly authorised surge workforces
•    Training and competency assessment
•    Supervision
•    Students participating in the program
•    Communications and engagement

Following that consultation, members in Victoria would be aware that the following Public Health Emergency Orders have been subsequently gazetted and are in force.

Compliance with the Victorian COVID-19 Vaccination Guidelines is a condition of the authorisation.

Members as always, should familiarise themselves with the gazetted documents for their own circumstances.
